The High School of Anoka has a school song that most students don't know. The goal of our class is to find ways to teach it to everyone. We had to think about what makes a memorable song? What makes a song catchy? What factors get someone to listen over and over again?

For video production, the greatest idea in my eyes was a welcome video from our principal, Mr. Farley, introducing the new Freshmen. As a welcome, I wanted this video to be soft and warm, with lots of Anoka pride.
The video starts with Mr. Farley (I couldn't have the real one so I made a clay figure) opening the school's front doors for the freshmen and giving a welcome speech. He leads them to the right hallway and blows into his megaphone for the school song and then- my idea changes. The plan was for clay cheerleaders to sing and dance to the song through the halls, but I was running out of time. I simply made stop-motion animations of random objects I could find becoming lyrics.
The video still features Mr. Farley's voice and a short tour of the school halls. I suppose I wanted to add cheerleaders because I always see them dance at pep-fests.

Elements Of Design

"n/a. It was really good"
"I thought the colors and the background made it harder to see but, it did show the element of line."
"Taking off the filter so it's easier to look at."
"Slow down the words a bit to make them more readable."

Skill

"n/a. This video was so good!!"
"I think if the letters were easier to see it would've helped but, I thought it still looked good."
"Using different fonts."
"The editing is great.  The actual video taking is just walking around so maybe to a bit more interesting things with the video without the editing."

Creativity/Originality

"n/a it was very creative."
"I thought it looked great and it was something I wasn't expecting and was different."
"Different filter."
"10/10 creativity and originality.  Nothing can be improved upon that I can see."

Effectiveness

"The words were a little hard to read, but it was still really good."
"I thought it was a creative and great way to teach the school song but I think if the letters were easier to see it would've been better."
"It doesn't teach the song."
"Words are kind of hard to see and read so maybe slow them down a bit."

Reflection

Hi, it's my reflection, and the first prompt for writing this is 'What am I proud of?' I have much more that I'm disappointed in, especially knowing that I can do so much better. The week and a half that I spent working on this project was possibly the busiest week of my life, and my Mama says she does it every day. I simply had a lot of other big projects I was working on at the same time, so none of them got the attention they deserved.

I was really excited about this project when I heard the prompt: I had so many ideas and felt passionate about it, too. My idea of Mr. Farley introducing Freshmen with a tour of the school while cheerleaders sing and dance to the song didn't come to light. I wish I could restart and make it better because I know I can. Especially the Mr. Farley figure, he deserves so much better. I also had to improvise the entirety of the lyrics by grabbing random objects and taking photos fast on a small green sheet of paper. All of this was done on the fly at multiple different jobs.

I think I'm proud of actually finishing this project in time because I've never been closer to emailing the teacher with an apology in advance for lateness. I think I'm proud that I found ways to get around my problems. I'm proud of trying my best when it was difficult, and I'm proud that my peer reviewers thought I did well, too.

What my peers, and myself, believe I could improve on the most is the stop-motion lyrics of the song. If I were to ditch the cheerleaders as I did and make this better, I would have 100 more photos all edited separately and line them up perfectly with the song. Making the lyrics as clear as possible should be the priority. I also think I could improve by thinking more about the elements of design. I used the elements more subconsciously as I edited the video, but who knows how awesome it could be at its full potential with well-thought use of line, shape, space, color, and texture. So interesting.

I would also like to make the video teach the song with more than just words, which is why I was originally going to use cheerleaders. A great way to teach a song is through dance, and there are plenty of catchy subjects to add.

My favorite module so far has been Video production because of its way of telling stories. I'm an artist that loves to write, listen to music, and tries to dance sometimes; and other than Theatre, film is the best way to combine all three to tell a story. If I ever have a presentation to show a class, I can use film for that. In the future, I see many ways to use film to share my stories, art, ideas, and I'm glad I got the chance to learn about making it.
